This workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced students. As portraying people is the supreme discipline in art, we recommend that beginners with no general experience in drawing attend the basic drawing workshop first.
In Western culture, portraits have long enjoyed a high status. Today, it is impossible to imagine life without selfies. However, anyone who has ever tried to draw their counterpart or themselves will certainly often not be completely satisfied with the result. In this workshop, you will therefore learn the important basics of the anatomy of the human head. This will help you to better understand the shape and facial expressions of the portrait. In one of your first exercises, for example, you will draw the human skull.
As you progress, you will learn the measuring techniques you need to draw directly from the model. Of course, these techniques can be used not only when drawing from the model, but also when drawing from photo templates or similar.
To transfer the likeness of a portrait, it is important to understand form, volume, line quality and tonalities. In this workshop, our instructors will guide you step by step through the most important topics in portraiture.
