For this workshop you should already have experience with oil paints. If you still feel unsure about portraying a real model, we recommend the Portrait Drawing workshop. You can combine these directly to make an intensive 2-week workshop or take them one after the other.
In this workshop you will learn the most important basics of oil portraiture from a real model. We will start with an introduction to the anatomy of the skull. An understanding of bones and muscles will help you to understand and transfer the portrait.
After a few exercises, we then turn to the topic of color theory. Here we will focus in particular on creating a palette for skin tones. You will learn which colors are generally suitable for portraits and should not be missing from your palette.You will spend most of your time painting directly from the model. Step by step, our instructors will guide you through the process. Interspersed theory blocks allow you to better understand the process and help you achieve your goal: to paint a portrait that is as similar as possible to the model.
