Our teachers

Aya Aziz

​Aya is a Canadian born in Egypt and living in Germany. After graduating from McGill University in Canada, she decided to take a different path and move to Italy to study painting and drawing. She attended the Angel Academy of Art in Florence and was able to complete her studies in one and a half years. After her time at Angel Academy, she spent three months at Charles Cecil Studios to focus primarily on portraits and learn additional painting techniques. Since leaving Italy, Aya has had three solo exhibitions in Egypt. She is currently a lecturer in drawing, painting and digital art at the Academy of Fine Art Germany.

Gabrielle Trom

The creative path of the artist Gabrielle Trom, who grew up in the USA, ranges from training in watercolor painting in Minnesota (USA) to studying sculpture at the Barcelona Academy of Art (Spain) to notable successes such as winning the McDermott Miller Competition. Despite the pandemic challenges in recent years, she taught and successfully participated in various international competitions, leaving her mark on both sides of the Atlantic. Trom's works, including "Puppeteer (Goliat)", have been exhibited at the Museu Europeu d'Art Modern (Barcelona). Since April 2023 she has been director of the sculpture course at the Academy of Fine Art Germany.

Jingsi Liu

Jingsi was born in China and has lived in Germany for many years. Here she received her degree in business administration and worked as a financial analyst for several years. She later gave up her job in favor of her great enthusiasm for art and began learning drawing as a part-time student at the Academy of Fine Art Germany. In 2018 she began studying drawing/painting full-time at the Barcelona Academy of Art and completed her studies in 2021. Her personal passion is landscape painting.

Since September 2021, Jingsi has been a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Art Germany and teaches drawing and painting.

Nurzada Nuzzipzhanova

Nurzada Nussipzhanova was born and raised in Central Asia and later moved to Spain to study art. In 2019, she completed her studies in drawing and painting at the Barcelona Academy of Art and taught there until the start of the pandemic in 2020. Her work ranges from portraits to landscape painting. Above all, she visually processes her natural surroundings and creates her own little story with each work. She has already exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona and at the Liceu Opera House (Barcelona).   Since September 2023, Nurzada has been a lecturer in drawing and painting at the Academy of Fine Art Germany.

Michael Weiss

​Michael completed his studies at the Alanus University of Art and Society in Bonn (Germany) with honors. He then moved to New York (USA) and studied another 3 years at the New York Academy of Art, where he finally received his MFA. For his outstanding achievements in art, he was awarded numerous scholarships from the Federal Republic of Germany. His work has been exhibited in galleries and international art fairs throughout Europe and New York, including the Flag Art Foundation and the Paul Clemen Museum. Michael's work has been published in Hyperrealist Magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. Some of his works are part of the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Collection. After his return to, he taught as an art lecturer at the Alanus University (Bonn) as well as at the Bundeskunsthalle and the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne. Since 2022 he has been deputy director of the Academy of Fine Art Germany and teaches drawing and painting.

Darryl Keith Babatunde Smith 

Darryl Keith Babatunde Smith (b. 1992, Georgetown, D.C.) is an artist-researcher and arts educator living and working in Bad Homburg, Germany. He earned his BFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and his MFA in Drawing with Anatomy from the New York Academy of Art. He has studied French, German, Latin, Ancient and Modern Greek which he uses in conjunction with his art practice. He has exhibited at Welancora Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), Athens Art Gallery (Athens, GR), Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (New York, NY), Equity Gallery (New York, NY), Steven Zevitas Gallery (Boston, MA), Rema Hort Mann Foundation (New York, NY), and SÍM Gallery (Reykjavík, IS). Smith has held the Velvetpark Residency (2022; Brooklyn, New York) and Athena Standards Residency (2019; Athens, Greece). His goldpoint and silverpoint drawings will be exhibited in his first museum solo exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki in 2025.
