How do you create the impression of transparency or depth? In this course, we demystify the painting techniques of the old masters. You will be familiar with terms such as grisaille, velatura and verdaccio.
After a painterly warm-up exercise that focuses on light and dark painting, we will first go into theory. Using examples from art history, you will be able to understand the individual stages of many masterpieces and perhaps identify the artists' working methods yourself on your next museum visit.
Then it's time for your master copy. Here you choose your favorite work from a pool of works by famous artists. We will discuss the tried and tested color palette of the Old Master Anders Zorn. You will use his color palette for your master copy.
Finally, we return to our first exercise and discuss glazing techniques. A technique consisting of thin transparent layers of paint with which colors can be given depth and made to glow.
Zum Abschluss greifen wir auf unsere erste Übung zurück und besprechen Lasurtechniken. Eine Technik bestehend aus dünnen transparenten Farbschichten mit denen Farben Tiefe erhalten und zum Leuchten gebracht werden können.
